Meerut Scissors
Meerut scissors are a unique type of scissors crafted in Meerut, India, using recycled metal scrap. The tradition of making these scissors dates back over three centuries, with the first ones made around 1653. Unlike conventional scissors, Meerut scissors can be repaired and reused multiple times, making them highly durable. The blades are made from recycled carbon steel, often sourced from old railway stock or automobiles, while the handles come from repurposed utensils or plastics. In 2015, Meerut scissors received a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, recognizing their distinct craftsmanship.
